NSO Use Cases and Success Stories
Cisco NSO Developer Days 2018 attendees will benefit from direct engagement with members of product development, NSO Solutions Architects and NSO Subject Matter Experts from Cisco Advanced Services, NSO Technology Partners and other Cisco NSO customers. NIL will present the NSO use cases and the project experiences with various customers:
- Network migration for Service Providers
- Core/Edge network optimization
- Service Discovery for Orchestration
- Layered Service Architecture (LSA) – As service providers look towards demands of cloud-scale networking, their legacy management tools and process are stretched to a breaking point by its scale and complexity. Learn how Cisco NSO with LSA can support the next order of magnitude of devices in the network managing over one million devices. (To learn more about LSA, watch the LSA Webcast with Boštjan Šuštar)
- Common Data Models (CDM) – This major new NED feature allows multiple NEDs to contain the same YANG modules, but of different versions and deviations. This opens up new possibilities as well as operational changes you need to be aware of.
- Templates – Templates are at the heart of the NSO service concept. Several new tools for template development, test and debugging have emerged in the last year.
- Profiling – Something is making some of your transactions run slow? Learn some of the new profiling tools and techniques to find out where the time is spent, so you can do something about it.
- Network Element Drivers (NEDs) – The NED layer is what makes NSO the uniform programmable Network API that you base your services on. New and interesting features are added to the NED layer all the time.
- Pioneer – When all devices support NETCONF and YANG natively, we can kiss the manual NED development process goodbye. Pioneer is an old tool that generates NETCONF NEDs for you. This functionality is now moving right into NSO.
- Core Function Pack (FP) – NSO is an application execution environment for network-centric applications. You can certainly roll your own, but there is also a collection of ready-made NSO applications known as the Core Function Packs.
- Cisco Advanced Services (AS) Best Practices – The consultancy arm of Cisco, known as Advanced Services, have been a hands-on partner in most NSO development and deployment projects. Come and learn about some of the best practices distilled from these projects.
- Service Modeling – Hear a lot about the NSO service modeling, but not quite sure what it is or what’s so cool about it? Take part in this hands-on group exercise, ask questions and get things explained.
- NSO Architecture – You hear talk about the NED layer, CFS node application, Service model, Data Provider, MAAPI, CDB, and NACM, and find some of it hard to follow? This is the place to look at the three architectural layers of NSO, where all these components fit in, and why they are there.
- NSO Onboarding – How do you build your CI/CD pipeline so that you know that your services will work before you go into production? And what do you need to think about before installing NSO in a production environment, anyway?
- Industry Trends and Roadmap – A briefing on industry trends and a discussion of planned features and directions for NSO.
- Q&A Panel Session – This session provides an opportunity for interactive dialogue between the attendees and the presenters on topics of the attendees’ choice and interest which may not be covered in the other sessions. Attendees should come with their questions about real-world use cases for discussion.
- Meet the Engineer – Have some architectural ideas, design questions or trend observations you’d like to discuss with a real engineer without necessarily neatly capturing your 16 barrels worth of thoughts in a support ticket? Well then, come and meet a Tail-f engineer.
After the sessions
- NSO LAB – We are opening up a limited number of lab seats in our close-by office on the last day of the event. The lab session will focus on our Core Function Packs (such as vBranch) and how these can help accelerate development of virtual services to successful production deployment. We are offering the lab seats on a first come first serve basis, so please make sure you register early if you want to reserve a seat.
